About the role
## About Unbox Robotics Unbox Robotics is a Pune-based robotics company transforming warehouses and distribution centres with compact, powerful and flexible mobile robotics systems built for modern warehousing. Our flagship product is a first-of-its-kind AI-powered parcel-sorting robotic system that installs up to 10X faster, saves over 50% of floor space, and improves productivity by more than 3X while using 50% fewer robots than competing solutions. Founded in 2019 and backed by marquee investors (including a recent US$28M Series B led by ICICI Venture and Info Edge's Redstart Labs), we are a fast-growing, profitable team building the future of on-demand robotics logistics from our Pune office. ## Role Overview We are looking for an Embedded Firmware Engineer to design and develop firmware for our robotic systems — writing the low-level, timing-critical code that runs on our microcontrollers and brings our hardware to life. You'll own features end to end, from requirement analysis through coding, testing and field sustenance, working closely with hardware, mechanical and product teams. ## Position Details - Department: Product & Technology — Electronics - Location: Pune (in-campus / work from office) - Experience: 3–5 years - Salary Range: INR 8,00,000 – 12,00,000 per annum - Number of Positions: 2
Responsibilities
- - Perform requirement analysis and write functional requirement specifications for new products, derivatives, or new features in existing products. - Handle embedded design documentation, coding, unit testing and integration testing. - Design and develop firmware in C/C++ for timing-critical, interrupt-based applications, and generate evaluation reports using lab equipment such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes and multimeters to validate functionality. - Develop firmware in C/C++ to test and evaluate the durability of components. - Develop firmware in C/C++ for resource-constrained embedded systems. - Collaborate with other engineering teams, partners and vendors to gather inputs and ensure correct implementation, interoperability and reusability. - Follow engineering processes including SCRUM, version control and bug management. - Conduct firmware impact analysis to ensure existing features remain functional when new changes are introduced. - Multitask between new product development and the sustenance of existing products. - Conduct design and code reviews to maintain quality of work.
Requirements
- ## Must-Have Requirements - Strong software design skills, including debugging, performance analysis and test design. - Strong programming skills in Embedded C; working knowledge of C++. - Hands-on knowledge of communication and interfacing protocols: USB, UART, SPI, I2C, Timers, PWM, WDT and CAN. - Experience with ARM Cortex-M4 or equivalent microcontrollers. - Experience in timing-critical, interrupt-based design, and power/memory optimization. - Ability to read datasheets and schematics, and design simple digital and analog circuits. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to self-learn. - Self-starter who can operate effectively with minimal supervision. ## Good to Have - Multi-threaded programming, RTOS and IPC. - Knowledge of bootloaders. - Knowledge of TCP/IP and UDP. - Experience with industrial protocols such as Modbus. - Experience with wireless technologies — Zigbee, BLE, LTE-M. - Experience with functional safety development in firmware and awareness of functional safety standards (functional safety certification preferred). - Experience with board bring-up activities. - Familiarity with Atmel Studio, Keil and STM32CubeMX. - Experience across multiple operating systems (Linux/Windows). ## Education B.E. / B.Tech / M.E. / M.Tech / M.S. in Electronics or equivalent, or equivalent relevant work experience. ## What We Value - A constant learner aiming to become a subject-matter expert. - A track record of working with innovation in a start-up environment. - Comfort in a high-paced working environment. - Ability to execute detailed procedures under time constraints.
